When Cynthia Terry was in elementary school, her imagination ran wild. There were constant stories spinning around her head. However, writing those adventures for others to experience proved to be a great challenge for Cynthia.
Words never looked right on the page and spelling was her worst subject. She was always the last one to complete a typing assignment. Long into her school years, her teachers would assign others to write for her so she could keep up. But Cynthia was determined. She wanted nothing more than to do well in school and share her stories.
With great support from her parents, teachers, and older sister (Heather), Cynthia learned to rise above her limitations and never quit. After many struggles, Cynthia discovered her voice.
Writing this novel has been a dream come true for Cynthia. It's her way of telling the world that limitations don't hold all the power. With hard work, perseverance, and support so much can be accomplished.
Don't give up.
I was born on September 2,1992 in Monrovia, Liberia. I lived in Grand Cape Mount County, Robertsport with my mother, father and two younger siblings. During the last civil war in Liberia in 2002, I left Liberia and traveled to Ghana to Buduburam
Camp as a refugee with my Mother and two younger siblings. I got baptized 2006 and became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
2008 a white man whose name Andy Jones opened an orphan home called Africa Heartwood Projects. My younger siblings and I had the opportunity to go there as orphan children. We went to school and learned all types of African activities, like dancing culture, beating culture drums, making African drums and African art. It was wonderful.
2013 I graduated from high school with a diploma. In 2017, my church sent me on a missionary journey for two years to Nigeria to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was amazing to be in another country seeing different kinds of people and winning souls for the Lord. After two years I returned home and started to live my normal life. Now by the special grace and mercy of God I'm working with Africa Heartwood Projects as a media specialist.
The reason I wrote this book is to tell the world that life in Africa is not easy. We have to focus and center our lives on God and the Savior Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice which make it possible for all human beings to come into this world. When I was growing up I lived my life as a refugee and ended up as an orphan just to survive and go to school. I am thankful to Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ for the gift of life and to my sponsor Andy Jones.
Trudy J. Peck was raised from the rough beginnings of being sister to a horde of ruffians. Surviving that, she and her handy, warm hearted husband Gordon opted to brave the parenting adventure and brought seven brilliant young people into this world. Not fully content, the Pecks often sheltered people between castles that came in off the street, so multitudes of many nationalities now call them Mom and Dad. After years of providing child care, herding children and cub scouts, performing and directing theatre and dance productions, and aiding her husband in his various ventures at work, Mrs. Peck graduated to the high honor of Grandma with the current number at 19 and counting! She and her husband had the remarkable opportunity of serving a 2 year mission in Sierra Leone, West Africa, which sparked a deep desire to share God’s message and impact lives. With this book and others to follow, Mrs. Peck desires to continue her mission of bringing hope to the world and paving the way for future adventures that will make a lasting difference.
